James J. Courchaine Collection Systems Award

Description: The James J. Courchaine Collection Systems Award was established in 1995 and named the James J. Courchaine Collection Systems Award in 1996. The award honors NEWEA member James J. Courchaine for his many contributions to the Collection Systems field. The award is extended to a NEWEA member to recognize his/her outstanding efforts in the operation, maintenance, management or design of a wastewater collection system. The award is given to a NEWEA member to recognize their outstanding efforts in the operation, maintenance, management or design of a wastewater collections system. The award recipient exemplifies the dedication essential to continuously improve a wastewater collection systems’ capability to adequately, cost-effectively, and safely service its community’s ongoing needs.
Nominees shall not be on the Collection Systems Awards Sub-Committee. The Collection Systems Committee (CSC) Awards Sub-Committee shall have seven members comprised of the following configuration:
- Present Awards Subcommittee Chair – 1
- Past Collection Systems Committee Chair – 1
- Past Award (Golden Manhole and Courchaine Award) Recipients – 2
- Collection Systems Committee Members with at least 1-5 years of active service – 3
Criteria:
- The nominee’s area of service must be in one or more of the following: management, planning, operation and maintenance, safety, facility design, education, training, or research of any aspect of a collection system.
- The efforts of the nominee must have resulted in one or more of the following: improved system operation, benefit to the environment, significant cost savings or improved systems understanding, safety, training, enhance personal growth, or other considerations pertinent to collection systems for which specific recognition is warranted.
- Nominee must be a member of NEWEA.
Recipients of the James J. Courchaine Collection Systems Award shall receive their award during the Awards Luncheon at the NEWEA Annual Conference.
