What will you be doing? 
As a Project Engineer, you will assist a team of experts with the development of plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and bid packages. You will be involved in project discussions regarding technical approach, cost, and scheduling performance on traditional design-bid-build projects and design-build projects. To be a successful Project Engineer, you should feel comfortable taking on and delegating many tasks that require various skills, and appropriately prioritizing those tasks for yourself and other Staff Engineers through completion.

What does a Project Engineer need? 
Over five years of consulting engineering experience and increasing responsibility in the geotechnical industry. A BS degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering or any related field is required, and an MS degree is preferred. Project Engineers will need either a PE license or the ability to obtain one in the next 6 months.  You are expected to be enthusiastic to learn, self-motivated, and have strong, clear, and concise written and verbal communication skills.

Treatment Systems Operator

Due to a recent retirement, the Littleton Water Department is accepting applications for the position of Treatment Systems Operator through June 2nd, or until such time the position is filled. The successful applicant will operate and maintain all equipment at our two water treatment plants, one wastewater treatment plant, and will assist in the maintenance and construction of the drinking water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This is an exciting time to join LELWD to further your career in water and wastewater treatment, as we have a new water treatment plant coming online this month that uses biological filtration to remove iron and manganese, as well as granular activated carbon filtration to remove PFAS. We also have a traditional GreenSandPlus filtration plant that is only 9 years old. In addition, construction of a new membrane bioreactor plant for wastewater treatment and a new collection system for the Littleton Common are beginning in June.

This is a union position with a base salary between $82,700 and $91,800 per year after accounting for all stipends and standby pay. Overtime pay is in addition. Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the water and/or wastewater treatment field. The position also requires the prospective candidate to possess a minimum of a T1 & D1 Drinking Water Operators License.

Benefits include a four-day work week (10-hour days, Monday through Thursday), enrollment in the Massachusetts Public Pension System, 12 paid holidays per year, 2 weeks’ vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 24 hours of personal time per year. After a reasonable training period, the successful candidate will be required to participate in the weekly on-call rotation, which requires the ability to respond to after-hours emergencies at any time of day or night for one week out of every six.

We are seeking a Lead Maintenance Mechanic who will be responsible for overseeing the daily maintenance at the Hull Treatment Facility. The Lead Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for supervising Mechanical Maintenance at the Hull Treatment Facility and outside pumping stations and ensuring that work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures. This position plans, develops, organizes, schedules, and supervises all routine, preventive, and corrective mechanical maintenance.

Typical responsibilities include:

* Performs operation of assigned treatment, mechanical and electrical equipment and other similarly related facility components and equipment.
* Performs  and leads preventive maintenance activities as scheduled to include inspection of remote pump stations and ancillary equipment.
* Utilize and maintain maintenance software programs with respect to asset management, capital planning and loss prevention.
* Fully competent in corrective maintenance best practices and scheduling.
* Maintains a complete and accurate on-site log book and records
* Coordinates with Operations staff to evaluate equipment performance and correct deficiencies.
* Lead pricing and planning of capital maintenance projects and other out-of-scope activities.

What will you need to succeed?

* Must have high school diploma or educational equivalent. Courses in mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance are a plus.
* Minimum of five years’ experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment.
* Experience with the maintenance of pumps, compressors and plumbing fixtures.
* Thorough knowledge in the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office programs, computerized maintenance programs and computerized databases including SCADA…
* Must have the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees.
* Must possess a valid Massachusetts State driver’s license.

Project Specific Pay Range: $25.00 – $35.00/hour, depending on experience and certification.

This position’s anticipated pay range is provided below; final exempt salary or non-exempt hourly pay will be dependent on experience level as well as considering a % based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working. General Statement of Duties:  This is very responsible chemist work at the full performance level involving the chemical, bacteriological and physical analyses of raw (untreated) and potable (treated) water and wastewater.  Work involves responsibility for the accurate analysis and interpretation of water and wastewater samples to confirm compliance with all local, state and federal laws regarding drinking water quality and wastewater discharge.

Duties include testing and analyzing water and chemical samples, tabulating reports, preparing correspondence and maintaining laboratory certification and training laboratory technicians.  This position also has the responsibility for making standard water treatment and wastewater treatment chemical, biological and physical testing technical decisions.  This work requires that the employee have good knowledge, skill and ability in chemistry and laboratory methods, principles and practices.

Examples of Duties:  Supervises and performs chemical, biological and physical analyses of water samples, wastewater samples and wastewater sludge by wet chemistry and instrumentation, including gas chromatography and atomic absorption spectrophotometry in accordance with state approved methods.  Analyzes chemical shipments for adherence to specifications and prepares reagents.  Formulates and implements Quality Assurance Program for quality control.  Performs chemical, microbiological and physical proficiency tests for maintenance of State certification.  Tabulates and compiles test data and prepares reports.

Maintains and calibrates laboratory instruments and analytical equipment.  Performs all laboratory procedures in a safe manner and observes all safety procedures, especially in handling carcinogenic and other hazardous samples and materials.  Purchases laboratory equipment and supplies.  Coordinates industrial monitoring program and conducts analysis of industrial discharge samples.  Trains and counsels’ employees, administers union contract language and verbal warnings, and recommends higher level discipline.  Assists in employee selection.  Assures safe work practices.  May coordinate data reporting and related issues with government agencies. Reports findings to the supervisor or others. Inputs data in computer systems and operates related equipment in a laboratory setting.  Performs related work as required.

Supervision Received:  Works under the general supervision of the Superintendent – Sewer or other designated supervisor.

Supervision Exercised:  Supervises the Laboratory Technicians and the work of other Sewer Division staff when assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Considerable knowledge of chemical, biological and physical analysis principles and practices as applied to water and wastewater treatment.

Considerable knowledge of test laboratory principles and practices as applied to water and wastewater treatment.  Considerable ability to conduct chemical and physical analyses of water samples and materials accurately and safely.  Considerable ability in oral and written communications.  Considerable ability to prepare laboratory reports and to maintain laboratory records.  Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors and other governmental agencies.

Qualifications:  A bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university in chemistry, biology or related field plus two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in chemical laboratory analytical work.  Some experience with water and wastewater analysis, atomic absorption, graphite furnace, complex analytical equipment and standard laboratory QA/QC practices is preferred.

Special Requirements:  Must obtain and maintain Laboratory Director Certification for chemistry and microbiology from the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health.

The purpose of this position is to assist, individually and with others, in the operation and maintenance of Pease Wastewater Treatment Plant, machinery and equipment according to approved performance standards for which the operating unit is responsible.  This includes functions such as treating wastewater, cleaning and maintaining treatment plant facilities, pumping stations and equipment, tanks, performing daily laboratory procedures, preventative maintenance and repair work, and otherwise completing assigned work.  Performance is subject to review according to the City’s personnel plan through observation, reports and the results achieved.
