Supervision Received: Works under the direction of Shift Supervisor of the Mattabassett District.

Supervision Exercised: None except when specifically specified.

General Statement of Duties: On an assigned shift collects samples of sewage and sludge for laboratory analysis; operates required valves and pumps pertinent to sewage treatment and for sludge disposal and makes adjustments and necessary; under the general supervision of a Shift Supervisor, operates all equipment pertinent to sewage treatment including centrifuges, incinerators, and makes adjustments as necessary; reads meters and charts and records findings, performs general custodial duties; makes up chemical solutions; cuts grass; operates power lawn mower; operates motor equipment including large and small trucks; performs semi-skilled and unskilled labor; cleans bar screens, conveyors and other such equipment as required; (under the general supervision of a Shift Supervisor, makes minor repairs and adjustments on equipment as required); does daily and shift lubrication, greasing and oiling of all equipment as required; does related work as required.

Minimum Skill and Ability: General practical knowledge of the duties of semi-skilled and unskilled labor practices. Ability to work with tools; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to keep operating records; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments on equipment; ability to get along with fellow workers; ability to follow and employ standard safety practices; ability to perform manual tasks requiring physical strength and endurance; some skill in the use and care of hand tools; working knowledge of modern sewage treatment practices and methods.

Special Requirements: Must obtain a Connecticut Wastewater Operator Class I certificate within one year of date of employment, certificate must be maintained at all times during employment. Must maintain a valid Connecticut driver’s license.

Experience and Training: Graduation from high school or accredited technical school and at least one year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a sewage treatment plant and facilities or preferably at least four years of work experience which has afforded the opportunity to become acquainted with the practices required of any semi-skilled and unskilled labor work requirements or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

The Day to Day

Qualifications and Competencies

·       Experience: Five (5) years of experience involving the maintenance, repair, and installation of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) including experience in administration, planning, operation, purchasing, scheduling, project management, etc. Two (2) years of supervisory experience required.

·       Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

·       Requires a working knowledge of specialized practices, equipment and procedures related to water and wastewater utility services (plumbing, fire suppression systems, inspection work are relevant to this role).

·       Backflow prevention and cross connection control knowledge preferred.

·       Must possess or have the ability to obtain, within a set timeframe, a Colorado Water Distribution Technician IV and Wastewater Collection Technician IV Certification.

·       A strong candidate for this role has demonstrated implementation, problem solving, and project management skills. Excellent time management and organizational skills are essential to the role as well as an ability to manage a large variety of tasks and deadlines in a positive and productive manner.

·       Proven customer service and communication skills (both verbal and written) required. This role will work directly with our customers, including hotels, resorts, and engineering teams to explain clearly and confidently our processes and procedures for efficient metering services. Public speaking or presentation skills helpful.

·       Research, data analysis and math skills are required.

·       This role will spend a lot of time working with a computer so proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, is required. Strong experience in Cloud Based Technology and software management and integration preferred.

·       Must have the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Knowledge of local area preferred.

·       Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s license within 30 days of full-time employment and be insurable under District’s standards.

·       Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within the first six (6) months of employment.

 

The Schedule

This position will work five eight hour shifts with some flexibility in start and time. This position is NOT required to work in an on call capacity.

Pay Range

The hiring range for this role is 93,947.78 – 117,434.72. The overall pay range for this role is 93,947.78 – 140,921.66. Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator / Mechanic Position

 

Town of Warren, MA, Wastewater Treatment Plant is seeking a full-time Operator/Mechanic. This full-time position is five consecutive days a week which may include Saturdays and/or Sundays, overtime, holidays, and mandatory on-call.  A generous benefit package is available including health insurance in which the Town pays 75% of the premium.  Requirements: HS Graduate: preferably 3 years’ experience in the operation and mechanic of a wastewater treatment facility or any equivalent combination of education and mechanical experience will be considered.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Potential for advancement and growth.  Subject to a favorable CORI, Pre-employment physical and drug screen.  The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator/Mechanic shall be responsible to the Sewer Department Chief Operator and shall be responsible for carrying out work assigned by the Chief or Assistant Chief Operator.

The WWTP Operator/Mechanic shall perform, but not be limited to, any combination of the following tasks: Operate, maintain, and clean machinery, plant process equipment and standby generators; load and unload trucks, spread sand and dirt, paint and replace non-functioning building and plant equipment; mow grass; cut brush; plow and shovel snow; trim shrubs and trees; wash and clean plant process equipment, building equipment and structures and vehicles. He/she shall also operate pumps, valves, and switches.  The WWTP Operator/Mechanic shall maintain shop tools, materials, supplies, and perform specific maintenance operations.

The WWTP Operator/Mechanic shall also be responsible for performing all work pertaining to the sewage system as designated by the Chief Operator. These duties shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

a)      Operate sludge dewatering and wasting equipment.

b)      Trouble shoot electrical and mechanical equipment.

c)      Dismantle and rebuild pumps, valves, air compressors.

d)      Perform plumbing repairs.

e)      Respond to sewer system alarms twenty-four hours per day.

f)       Perform lab testing when needed.

g)      Properly handle all treatment plant process chemicals.

h)      Read treatment plant and sewer system blueprints.

i)        Inspect and maintain sewer system structures.

j)        Operate sewer maintenance equipment, i.e., sewer jet and dump truck.

k)      Inspect treatment plant processes and process equipment.

l)        Carry out monthly preventive maintenance program.

m)   Work schedule minimum 40 hours per week with required weekends and holiday coverage.

n)      Once fully trained you will be responsible for carrying an on-call emergency phone on a weekly rotating schedule.  Compensation for on-call duty is two hundred dollars per week.

o)      Attends training classes and seminars as needed.

Qualifications:

The applicant shall be capable of receiving and carrying out orders, both orally and written. High School Graduate, preferably from a technical school: preferably 3 years’ experience as an operator and mechanic at a wastewater treatment plant or any equivalent combination of education and mechanical experience will be considered.

Can perform manual and skilled repairs for extended periods of time at varying climatic conditions.

Possesses basic computer skills.

Can communicate with others both orally and in writing, works well with others.

Has basic electrical and mechanical knowledge.

Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time and to operate machinery safely and efficiently.

*Obtain Grade 4 or higher Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Plant License within 6 months of employment.  Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License Required.

Senior Wastewater Project Manager

The Town of Falmouth seeks a highly motivated, experienced professional to serve as our first Senior Wastewater Project Manager to manage wastewater projects and assist the Wastewater Superintendent with the management and technical affairs of the Wastewater Division of our DPW.  The Town is engaged in a long-term process to improve water quality in coastal ponds through planning and executing wastewater management projects.  Currently, we have a major treatment plant upgrade underway, are designing the next phase of our sewer system expansion, and are working to permit a new ocean outfall for the discharge of treated wastewater.

Under the general direction of the Wastewater Superintendent, the Senior Wastewater Project Manager manages wastewater planning, permitting, design and construction projects, and other watershed management activities. This position will manage the development and implementation of Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plans and Watershed Management Plans for multiple watersheds in Falmouth.

This position will develop scopes of work and develop/manage requests for quotes/proposals/bids in accordance with Massachusetts public procurement laws. In addition, the Senior Project Manager will review and manage contracts, prepare and track budgets and schedules, and review engineering plans and specifications for wastewater work. The position will assist the Wastewater Superintendent in ensuring projects are effectively and efficiently executed and completed in compliance with contractual requirements and that the Town receives quality work.

This position may supervise the equivalent of ten or fewer full-time employees in the absence of the Wastewater Superintendent.  This position maintains detailed wastewater project records, prepares various associated reports, including those required to maintain state regulatory compliance, and prepares and presents public presentations regarding Wastewater Division activities and plans at day or evening meetings of various committees, boards, and agencies.  This position also reviews plans and permits for private project wastewater projects, including connections and connection modifications.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an environmental focus, environmental engineering, or a related field and five years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater or utility system design, planning, management, and/or operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.  Municipal experience and experience with planning and permitting are preferred.

The ideal candidate has strong project management, computer, and organizational skills and the ability to work independently on long-term planning and management tasks and effectively and diplomatically communicate wastewater principles and projects to the general public and regulatory agencies.  Candidates must have the ability to prepare and review technical documents.  Applicants must also have the ability to effectively work and interact with individuals and groups of various abilities, cultures, backgrounds, and identities.

Upper Blackstone Clean Water is a MA Grade 7 Wastewater Treatment Plant in Millbury, currently accepting resumes for an Assistant Senior Wastewater Operator on the 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. shifts.  We are one of New England’s largest clean water treatment plants serving roughly 260,000 people in the greater Worcester area and managing biosolids for an additional 14 communities.
