The Power to Heal – Successful Fundraiser at 2013 Spring Meeting

On June 4, 2013, less than two months after the tragic bombings at the Boston Marathon, NEWEA members and the greater Cape Cod community banded together in a fundraiser for the Richard Family Fund. The Richard Family suffered dearly because of the bombings, which killed 8-year-old Martin and left his mother and sister severely injured.Group

The fundraiser, which kicked off the second day of NEWEA’s 2013 Spring Meeting, consisted of a 5/10 K Walk/Run/Bike, and a Silent Auction. The Walk/Run/Bike began at 7 AM, and was attended by almost 60 individuals, including NEWEA members, families, and Cape Cod residents. The clear spring morning encouraged a peaceful mood among participants, who wore shirts donated by EST Associates (Bill Richard’s employer) featuring Martin Richard’s quote, “No More Hurting People.”

Donations came from neighbors and extended networks alike, and NEWEA was overwhelmed by the kindness of associations and contributors from California, to Colorado, to Missouri. The Silent Auction, hosted at the Ocean Edge Resort on Tuesday afternoon provided another opportunity to which donors responded generously. Over 30 items, including Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots tickets, gift baskets, and golf clubs, were sold.

In total, the day’s events raised $13,116, and 100% of those funds will be donated directly to the Richard Family Fund on behalf of NEWEA and our extended family.
BikersNEWEA would like to thank all who contributed to the fundraising efforts. While nothing can compensate for the losses suffered by the Richard Family, we hope that these funds can aid them as they find the power and strength to heal, and demonstrate the lasting support of their community.
