A Look Back- NEWEA 2013 Annual Conference in Review

As NEWEA begins preparations for the 2014 Annual Conference, to be held January 26-29, 2014 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel, we’re looking back at some of last year’s highlights for inspiration and motivation. The 2013 Annual Conference followed the theme “This is where it begins,” marking the launch of NEWEA’s new brand, and a renewed focus on public outreach communications and awareness campaigns.

Day 1 of the 2013 Annual Conference began with a keynote address tying in to this theme given by Rob McElroy, P.E., General Manager of Daphne Utilities. Rob’s experience and award-winning work in the water industry were apparent as he spoke about “Seeing the Invisible and Doing the Impossible.” His presentation is available on YouTube, in two segments (click for part 1 and part 2), and is well worth watching. He elaborates on setting high standards, communicating with customers, approaching day-to-day customer service in the utilities industry, and taking risks to revolutionize the industry- all key concepts to keep in mind as we prepare for upcoming NEWEA events including WEFTEC, a CSO Specialty Seminar, and the 2014 Annual Conference.

Overall, the 2013 Annual Conference was a tremendous success, drawing almost 2,000 exhibitors and attendees, and featuring 31 technical sessions and more than 200 Exhibits. Similar numbers are anticipated for the 2014 Annual Conference, and a newly released Exhibitor Prospectus is available in August. The 2014 theme, “Get Connected,” marks special opportunities for sponsors to connect to a receptive audience, and for conference attendants to network and explore available resources. Whether you were able to attend the 2013 Conference or not, we hope you’ll join us in January as we return to the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel for several days of technical sessions, exhibit events, and more. Stay tuned to NEWEA updates via our website, emailTwitter, or Facebook for information about Conference registration, and more resources from our previous events.
