Advanced Activated Sludge Process Control and Optimization Class

From NHDES:

“The NH Department of Environmental Services is pleased to host this 2 day class on advanced activated sludge process control by Eric Wahlberg, PE., Ph.D., of WasteWater Technology Trainers, Fountain Valley, CA. Eric taught this class for us last year, and one attendee commented: ‘Eric’s class was one of the best wastewater training events I’ve attended. Eric’s passion, expertise, and ability to blend the operational and engineering worlds make this a practical class with real and immediate applications. In just two days, we’ve identified a number of areas we can look for further improvements in our operations. Eric’s challenge to provide efficient and effective wastewater services is supported by the know-how and tools to start that process. I’d encourage our staff to attend this powerful class in the future.’

Class Objective: to give activated sludge front-line supervisors and operators, and process control operators and engineers, a more in-depth understanding of the activated sludge process. With this understanding, effluent quality variability and process energy usage can be reduced.

Topics to be presented include: wastewater characterization, biological N & P removal, the importance of sludge quality, measuring and controlling sludge quality, WAS flow control, BOD conversion vs. removal, RAS flow optimization, secondary clarifier performance diagnostic testing, and a state point analysis. Paper copies of the presentation will be provided.

Instructor: As WasteWater Technology Trainers’ president and primary instructor, Eric Wahlberg is an operator, engineer, and Ph.D. The Water Environment Federation has awarded Eric numerous awards for his efforts in research, contribution to operations, and operational problem solving. He is well known for his work in developing activated sludge process control and performance tests and has written and presented extensively on those subjects. Eric is also a nationally renowned expert in primary and secondary clarifier operations. More info: www.wastewatertechnologytrainers.com.
