Johanna Lewis, Undergraduate at UNH

Johanna Lewis won the NEWEA undergraduate student scholarship award in 2015. She is currently in her third year of study towards a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering at the University of New Hampshire. Though she grew up in Maryland she is fully embracing New England life, and working toward hiking all of the 4,000 footer peaks in the White Mountains.

Johanna first learned about NEWEA through a professor, and took it upon herself to learn more about the organization through the NEWEA website. She is now a student member and enjoys reading the NEWEA Journal each quarter, and utilizing the NEWEA Job bank to learn about New England area firms and review internship opportunities.

In addition to her busy academic schedule, Johanna is also involved in the UNH chapter of Engineers without Borders and is serving as project lead for a drinking water project in a small community in the Andes Mountains of Peru. Her project team has constructed a new water pipeline to replace a compromised portion of the community water system. Her team is working towards installing and testing a water treatment solution for this distribution system, to be constructed in May of 2016. She has found this multi-year project to be very rewarding both personally and professionally, and hopes to make the trip to see its completion in the coming year.
