Basic  Purpose/Function:

Work performed is of a difficult, responsible, specialized and variable nature. Considerable skill in performing varied maintenance and construction operations relating to the city sewer system and its related facilities. Including the inspection and service of lift stations, repairs to pumps, motors and controls. Keeps accurate records and makes reports. Performs a variety of maintenance and construction tasks related to public services particularly in the area of sanitary sewer collection systems; operates all trucks, which includes proficient operation of the “Flush-Vac unit, skid steer loaders, front end loaders, rollers, compactors, snowplows and snow removal equipment, various types of light equipment and hand tools as required.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities (Illustrative Only):

Performs work common to the public services and sewer collection operations.

Education and Training:

Requirements of Work:
Ability to obtain and maintain a Grade II level of the Voluntary Collection Systems Certification.
Must possess a valid State of Maine commercial driver’s license, Class B with a Tank endorsement.
Knowledge of construction and maintenance equipment techniques and characteristics of materials used in public works and sewer collection operations.
Knowledge of basic electrical fundamentals and electrical systems.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and service connection records.
Ability to operate all types of trucks and light equipment common to public services and sewer related collection system operations.
Intermediate computer skills with the ability to learn and successfully use new computers and associated software programs as needed.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) is seeking candidates for an Environmental Engineer to work with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to focus solely on storm recovery tasks in connection with the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery (GOSR).   The Environmental Engineer will conduct engineering reports, plans and specifications, contract and work plan reviews and approval for wastewater treatment plant repairs and resiliency upgrades. Will conduct monthly inspections to document construction upgrades, generate inspection reports, and review and approve reimbursement requests.  Will coordinate and conduct Community Assistance Visits with local Floodplain Managers within NY Rising communities to assess proficiency and training needs.  This position will extend through September 2019.

The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in environmental or civil engineering, or related field and must hold a New York State Professional Engineer’s license with current registration. Incumbent will have experience applying engineering principles in identifying and solving engineering problems related to protecting and remediating air, land, and water resources. Experience and capability working with state and local water/wastewater agencies required. Experience with operation of wastewater treatment utilities and facility reconstruction preferred, as well as experience with SPDES permits compliance action and inspection process and procedures.
