Gr. U3/ $18.86-$23.93 / Starting Salary: $18.86, Application Period: 8/23/18 to 8/30/18. Shift and Days: 3 PM-11 PM/ Days Off: Rotating Schedule. Restricted to leave to protect status of 2/16/19.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Takes and records readings of plant equipment, including temperature, pressure, and vacuum.  Operates a variety of pumps, valves, gates, and switches in order to operate the plant equipment.  Responds to alarms or operational problems within plant property and at remote locations and takes corrective action based on defined procedures or supervisor direction.  Cleans plant equipment and facilities and maintains a safe working environment.  Frequently requires operation of a forklift, Bobcat, front end loader, sweeper, scum truck, and/or pick-up truck.  Collects samples, performs standard tests, and records results; notifies supervisor if readings are abnormal.  Assists other operators and plant staff with cleaning, maintaining, repairing, and installing plant equipment.  Receives hazardous materials (chemical deliveries) and completes appropriate paperwork.  Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.   As required, to drive a facility vehicle on or off site.  Medium Work: exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:  High School Diploma or G.E.D. as required and authorized by Chapter 42-17.4 of the RI General Laws of 1956, as amended (RIGL).

EXPERIENCE:  Performance in basic maintenance. Following instructions. Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.  Cleaning and sanitation principles and practices.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Within one year of appointment, must possess an Operator-In-Training (OIT) Grade I certification license for wastewater treatment plant.   Valid driver’s license in good standing is required at time of appointment.

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced engineer who can work independently at the task level on water/wastewater system planning, design and construction projects for our private and municipal clients. You will be exposed to a variety of projects and will report directly to Project Engineers and Project Managers who provide leadership in the timely and quality delivery of services including effective scheduling and cost management control and mentoring of professional staff.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate for this position will function well in a team environment, working closely with other engineers, designers and Project Managers to take a project through permitting, design and construction. Ideally, you will be familiar with engineering concepts associated with municipal water or wastewater systems or have a breadth of experience across both disciplines. Specific areas of experience may include hydraulic modeling, water/wastewater treatment processes and collection/distribution system infrastructure, and have experience preparing plans and specifications. Experience in state and EPA regulations regarding water/wastewater treatment and collection/distribution systems is a plus.  Strong writing and communications skills are also required as assignments will include report writing, environmental studies and presentations. One need not have all the skillsets listed herein and Woodard & Curran will train the right individual.

Qualifications:
* BS in civil/environmental engineering.
* Master’s degree preferred.
* Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred.
* 1-5 years’ experience with water or wastewater engineering related projects.
* Experience with local, state, and federal regulatory permitting process.

Wastewater Treatment Operator

The Charles River Pollution Control District, a medium-sized wastewater treatment facility, is seeking a candidate for the position of Wastewater Treatment Operator. The position requires a minimum of a Massachusetts Wastewater Operator Grade 4 License or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire.

The Wastewater Treatment Operator is part of a team that monitors, operates and troubleshoots the plant equipment and treatment process including screenings/grit, biological and chemical nutrient removal activated sludge system, chlorination/de-chlorination system and GBT sludge system.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to daily monitoring and inspection of the plant, recording plant information displayed on meters and gauges, opening gates and valves, cleaning tanks, monitoring chemical feed systems, accepting chemical deliveries, assisting in maintaining a clean and orderly facility, collecting samples from the process and in the collection system and monitoring septage receiving. The position requires working with and understanding SCADA and working in confined spaces.

Weekend, holiday, on-call and response during emergencies are required and compensation will be provided for such. Hourly rate ranges from $20/hour to $25/hour and will be based upon experience and qualifications.  Competitive benefits are offered which includes the Norfolk County Retirement System.

Laboratory Technician – Water and Sewer Divisions

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

$26.96 – $32.41 (Hourly)

General Statement of Duties: This is skilled work responsible for the sampling and physical, chemical and bacteriological laboratorial analysis of domestic and industrial water and wastewater for the Divisions.  Coordinates local pretreatment program as assigned.  Maintains necessary laboratory records as prescribed by local, State and federal standards, ordinances, regulations or statutes.   Conducts industrial wastewater monitoring and meets with private sector officials regarding permits, violations and related issues as assigned.

Additional Duties: Operates routine and sophisticated laboratory equipment such as atomic absorption spectrophotometer, gas chromatograph and autoanalyser.  Prepares media and reagents.  Performs quality control measures and ensures quality assurance protocols are followed.  May coordinate permitting and related issues with various agencies.  Reports findings to the supervisor or others.  Inputs data in computer systems and operates related equipment in a laboratory setting.  Prepares reports and correspondence.  Performs related work as required.

Supervision Received:  Works under supervision of the Chemist or other designated supervisor.

Supervision Exercised:  When assigned, supervises the work of others.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Considerable knowledge of chemistry and microbiology    related to potable water and domestic and industrial waste. Considerable ability to accurately perform required laboratory tests.  Good knowledge of local, State and Federal laws related to potable water and domestic and industrial wastes.  Considerable ability to follow complex written and oral instructions.  Good ability to maintain effective working relationships with superiors and associates.  Good ability to use a personal computer and laboratory equipment.  Good ability to communicate effectively with the public.

Qualifications:  Associate of Science degree in biology, chemistry or related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in the laboratory analysis of water and wastewater.  Some experience with atomic absorption, graphite furnace and complex analytical equipment preferred.  An equivalent combination of experience and training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements:  Must obtain and maintain during the course of employment any required local, State and federal certifications in laboratory analysis work.  Must possess and maintain a valid State of Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
