Weston & Sampson is seeking a Water Distribution System Operator to support operations, maintenance and management of their Chatham, MA project.

What you’ll do:

  • This position will perform a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and manual work in the cleaning, locating and inspection of the water distribution system and groundwater wells
  • Operate a variety of light equipment and leak detection equipment.

What you will bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a related position desirable but not required.
  • Driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Must possess a MA Grade 3-D and MA Grade 2-T Water license as well as, the ability to obtain a MA Cross Connection Tester’s license within one (1) year of hire.
  • Confined space entry required.
  • Ability to be on call nights and weekends to work overtime in response to emergency situations and alarms.
  • Must live within 30 minutes of the Town of Chatham to respond to emergencies, work shift, on-call, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
  • Must work outdoors in all climates.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Required to communicate via radio & hear radio dispatch signal.
  • Hear traffic noise and observe oncoming traffic for safety.
  • Perform simple & power grasping, pushing pulling, fine manipulation, use feet to operate foot controls.
  • Ability to perform considerable walking, climbing, moderate to heavy lifting and carrying weight of 100 pounds.

Wastewater Operator

Weston & Sampson Services is currently looking for a Wastewater Operator for the Cape Cod area with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience. (Grade 4 Wastewater license preferred) This individual will be responsible for managing multiple wastewater systems that involve composing sampling programs and standard operating procedures for operating and maintaining water systems in accordance with Massachusetts regulations.

What you’ll do:

  • Performing inspections of all plant equipment
  • Monitoring and observing operating conditions
  • Adjusting wastewater treatment equipment
  • Performing routine lab tests and calibrating meters
  • Maintaining compliance with all safety requirements
  • Performing minor maintenance of plant equipment
  • Housekeeping and maintaining plant grounds
  • Preparing monthly reports for wastewater systems

What you will bring:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • A minimum MA Grade 4M Wastewater Treatment Operator License is required
  • Must be able to climb ladders and lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with computers in a Windows based environment
  • Knowledge of MA DEP regulation of plan O&M is desirable
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work occasional overtime, holidays, weekends and nights as required.

Equipment Operator – Wastewater Division (Re-opened Job/Extended)

The Town of Kennebunkport, Maine, is seeking a full-time experienced and collaborative professional to fill the position of Wastewater Equipment Operator for its Wastewater Division of the Public Works Department. This position is full time, hourly, non-FLSA Exempt and reports to the Chief Treatment Plant Operator. Kennebunkport is a coastal municipality of 20 square miles and the Wastewater Division maintains 18 miles of gravity sewer lines, 14 major pump stations and 90 grinder pumps. The Treatment Plant is authorized to discharge up to 0.70 mgd. This position will assist in the operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, compost operation and maintaining the collection system.

Job Requirements: Applicants must possess a Maine Wastewater Operator License or the ability to obtain one within a year. Applicants must possess the skills and experience to maintain the wastewater treatment plant, and wastewater collection/discharge system. Strong computer skills, experience with SCADA programs preferred. Valid motor vehicle license with excellent driving record is required. Availability to work evenings and weekends. Overtime work is required for on-call weekend lab work. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, employees, vendors, residents, and members of the public. Must also be team oriented and participate with co-workers in the operation of equipment required to ensure proper operation of the wastewater system.

EXPERIENCE:

-A combination equal to a high school diploma and experience in the operation and maintenance of a collections system or wastewater treatment plant, or related field.
-Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
-Must be 1 st aid and CPR certified within 90 days of hire.
-Maintaining safe & efficient working conditions including housekeeping.
-Ability to perform considerable walking, climbing, moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
-Must have a MA Class 2 CDL driver’s license, Tanker endorsement preferred. Must meet all written, physical, testing and notification requirements established by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
-Must possess or able to obtain a Grade 4 Collections Certificate within 36 months of hire.

TMDL Coordinator-MassDEP

The TMDL Coordinator will assist in supporting water quality modeling and interpretation of results for draft and final TMDL projects. TMDLs or alternative plans will be developed to guide both water quality protection measures as well as restoration efforts to ensure management interventions will comply with Water Quality Standards. The TMDL Coordinator will work to oversee consultants, participate in advisory committees, assist in the review of models and the development and review of TMDL reports and alternative plans, and interact with the public.

Preferred experience: development of TMDLs, water quality and loading models, data analysis, demonstrated technical and managerial abilities.

Assistant Engineer

The Greater Augusta Utility District is a non-profit public utility that owns and operates a water, sewer and stormwater utility which provides service to multiple communities.  These services include sewer collection, wastewater treatment, stormwater collection, drinking water supply and fire protection.

Responsibilities include performing a variety of engineering functions relative to public works projects, prior to, during and after construction to ensure satisfactory operation of the completed infrastructure.  Administrative and technical work associated with asset management, utility locating, construction inspection, project design, field layout using global positioning system equipment (GPS), researching customer issues, computer aided drafting (CAD), Geographic Information System (GIS) data input/output, water and sewer flow testing and monitoring, maintenance of location records, and after hours coverage.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Civil, Sanitary, or Environmental Engineering or equivalent combination of training and experience.  Must have a Certification of Engineer Intern within 5 months of hire.  Must have a Class C driver’s license.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a comprehensive benefit package, pension plan and generous paid time off.  Pay range is $53,858 to 70,018 annualized.

Wastewater Treatment Assistant Chief Operator

The Charles River Pollution Control District, a medium-sized wastewater treatment facility, is seeking a candidate for the position of Wastewater Treatment Assistant Chief Operator. The position requires a Massachusetts Wastewater Operator Grade 7 license.  

The Assistant Chief Operator is responsible for the operation department which is a team that monitors, operates and troubleshoots the plant equipment and treatment process including screenings/grit biological and chemical nutrient removal activated sludge system, chlorination/dechlorination system and GBT sludge system.  The operations team performs the following duties including but not limited to:  daily monitoring and inspection of the plant, recording plant information displayed on meters and gauges, opening gates and valves, cleaning tanks, monitoring chemical feed systems, accepting chemical deliveries, assisting in maintaining a clean and orderly facility, collecting samples from the process and in the collection system and monitoring septage receiving.  The position requires working with and understanding SCADA and working in confined spaces.

Weekend, holiday, on-call and response during emergencies are required and compensation will be provided for such. Hourly rate range is $26 – $32/hour and will be based upon experience and qualifications.  Competitive benefits are offered which includes the Norfolk County Retirement System.

Environmental Analyst – (WW & Onsite Systems)

The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) is seeking a highly organized candidate to serve as a project manager in the Wastewater and Onsite Systems Division working on State Revolving Fund (SRF), New York City watershed projects, National Tanks Conference and Exposition; L.U.S.T Line, and UST-LUST training. Will arrange for and chair or co-chair workgroup meetings. The incumbent will develop work plans, budgets, and contract/grant amendments and provide contract management. Will answer inquiries from state and federal agencies, consultants, and the general public about wastewater, water quality, technical publications, and NEIWPCC programs. Respond to policy issues relating to the Clean Water Act (State Revolving Fund and Needs Survey).

The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in environmental studies, public policy, natural science, public health, earth science, biology, engineering, or chemistry preferred. Must have knowledge of and experience with aspects of environmental policies and regulations as well as knowledge of the 2005 Energy Policy Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, and CERCLA. Candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational skills. Conference and event planning and management experience strongly preferred. Strong computer skills required.
