Definition

Skilled technical, mechanical and supervisory work overseeing the electrical operating and control systems, equipment and fixtures of the wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, and other facilities; all other related work as required.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school graduation and advanced technical training in variable frequency drives and controls, red tag procedures with engineering and electronics courses highly desirable; eight to 12 years electrical experience of which four to six years should be in three-phase, 480‑volt or higher, two years in commercial, and three to five years in industrial; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

Massachusetts Master Electrician’s License

Massachusetts Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill

Knowledge. Knowledge of electrical systems and control systems related to wastewater treatment machinery, equipment, and other facilities. Knowledge of how these systems and equipment are maintained and repaired. Knowledge of approved methods, practices, code requirements and safety standards.

Ability. Ability to handle a variety of duties without supervision; ability to plan, organize, and coordinate assigned electrical and control systems maintenance projects; ability to direct the work of others; ability to prepare routine maintenance reports and maintain accurate records; ability to react promptly and efficiently in emergencies; ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, wiring diagrams, schematics and codes; ability to use hand and power tools; ability to troubleshoot electrical and control malfunctions.

Skill. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

 

Physical Requirements

Moderate physical effort generally required to perform work, including bending, walking, climbing, reaching, and standing. Frequently required to move (push, pull, lift or carry) objects weighing up to sixty (60) pounds. Sometimes works in confined areas for extended periods of time. Must be able to access all areas of a multi-level facility. Frequently required to operate hand, power, and various tools, such as drills, saws, hydraulic punches and cutters, standard and special electrical tools and equipment, such as voltmeters, ammeters, and synchroscopes requiring manual dexterity. Excellent eyesight (sharp, close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision) and hearing well within normal ranges.

Supervision

Works under the general direction of the Superintendent of Maintenance or Assistant Superintendent of Maintenance.

 

Performs highly responsible technical, mechanical and supervisory functions, requiring the exercise of independent judgment assigning tasks and setting priorities and in determining the use of proper technical methods.

 

Supervises three, or more, full-time maintenance department employees.

Job Environment

Most work is performed under shop and field conditions with potential exposure to loud noises, heights, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, near moving parts and frequent risk of electrical shock; some work is performed outside with exposure to variable weather conditions.

 

Has contact with other District staff and some contact with vendors.

 

Errors in judgment could lead to danger, delay or loss of service, damage to equipment, injury to self and others, and legal ramifications to the District.

Adheres to the District’s safety rules, regulations and policies.

Essential Functions

Ensures that all electrical operating and control systems, equipment and fixtures are in good working order by determining priorities and assigning and supervising the daily work of the electrician, instrumentation repair technician and the electrical/instrumentation helper. Visits work sites to ensure that assigned work has been completed satisfactorily.

Reviews, assigns, and signs-off on work orders on a daily basis. Periodically confers with the Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Assistant Superintendent of Maintenance and Superintendent of Maintenance to review and expedite outstanding work orders.

Provides support to the electrician and instrumentation repair technician, including hands-on leadership, advice and experience, manufacturer, vendor and supplier information, code requirements, and information about replacement parts and tools.

 

Prepares labor and materials estimates.

Inspects, repairs and maintains electrical, electrical mechanical, and/or electronic operating and control systems, equipment and fixtures including power, instrumentation, lighting, heating and cooling systems. Inspects and repairs wiring, meters, outlets and panels. Installs new electrical and electronic equipment.

Enters and upgrades maintenance records in the computerized maintenance program.

Performs and coordinates high-voltage switching.

Annual Pay Rate:    $63,321.98 to $73,588.02

WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT CLASS II OPERATOR

Aquarion Company, a leading company in the wastewater and water contract operations industry and is seeking a State of Connecticut Wastewater Treatment Plant Shift Operator holding valid Class II license for our New Hartford contract. Duties will include: Provide day-to-day monitoring and operation of municipal wastewater treatment plant, pump stations and collection network. Facility is a 0.4 mgd sequenching batch reactor with UV disinfection. The successful candidate should also have 5 plus years of experience in the operation of secondary biological treatment process. SBR operational experience, commitment to attain a Class III license and willingness to obtain a drinking water license are a plus. Operator must be able to respond to non-routine call-outs within one hour of notification. Depending on experience, the hourly range for the Class II Operator is $25 – $32 per hour.

We are seeking an Assistant Plant Manager with a minimum Massachusetts Grade 6 wastewater certification.  In this role you will assist the Plant Manager with the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and management, maintaining close client communications for the project, and other administrative duties.

Typical responsibilities include:

* Day-to-day operations and management of the facilities, including provision of trained staff 24/7.
* Day-to-day operations and management of the remote communications network and assigned SCADA network.

* 10 to 15 years’ experience in managing complex water wastewater treatment facilities including laboratory, and collection systems.
* Massachusetts Wastewater Operators License – Grade 6.

* Experience overseeing operating and capital budgets.
* Participation directly and to a significant extent in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water/wastewater facilities throughout the last ten years.
* Experience managing a minimum of 5 staff.

The successful candidate will be able to continue to build upon our cutting edge, proactive management of our Water Resource Protection facilities and be a key manager within the department.

We are seeking a skilled Wastewater Engineer, with primary skills in the upgrade of wastewater treatment plants and pump stations. Over the next several years, there will be several projects focused on the overall operation of our wastewater treatment systems that will need design, construction, and oversight of improvements.  As noted in our Asset Management System, the immediate areas of focus at the treatment plant will be Phase II Electrical Upgrade, Grit System Evaluation and Upgrade, and a Dewatering System Evaluation and Upgrade. We are also in the process of upgrading our CSO Facility Plan, which will layout 10 years’ worth of projects as well.  Multiple pump station upgrades are needed. Larger projects will involve consultants and contractors and the smaller pump station upgrades will be completed by City employees, and managed by this position.  The upgrade to our largest pump station in the City will be begin this fall.

The Wastewater Treatment Engineering Manager is a professional, technical, management position. We are seeking a solid people-manager with highly developed analytical and technical skills who can interface with multiple departments, consultants, contractors, and the public. Duties include operating as lead on the Asset Management Program; lead on oversight of our consultants for the design and construction of treatment plant upgrades, pump station upgrades, and utility upgrades; support staff with operations-maintenance-improvements, and perform construction administration on projects. This position will be responsible for interfacing with government agencies, including the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Transportation. The work required for this position is performed with considerable independence and responsible for evidence-based recommendations for substantial upgrades. This position reports directly to the Director of Water Resource Protection, along with frequent interface with the Treatment Plant/Pump Station Manager, the Collection Systems Manager, Director of Public Works, Stormwater Program Coordinator and other departments as needed.

The successful candidate will be highly adept at treatment plant, pump station, and utility planning/design/construction along with the facets associated with the upgrades and operations.  Must have supervision experience with employees, consultants, and contractors. This position will supervise a Civil Transportation Engineer and a Senior CAD Technician, manage the division budget, and provide primary engineering analysis and consultation to the Water Resource Protection Department with other duties to the Public Works Department. Assistance maybe needed to help out the other city Departments on a limited basis.

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in the field of Engineering. An emphasis on Civil Engineering, including collection systems and treatment systems required.  Must have a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience, including some supervisory experience. Professional Engineering License in the State of Maine (or ability to obtain through reciprocity) is required. Ideal candidates have experience with GIS, Capital Improvement Projects, MS4 permits, SWMM programs and CSO programs. Must possess strong ethics and a commitment to public service. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout employment.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must project a polished image of professionalism and courtesy as a representative of the Department when dealing with the public.
  • Required: State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Wastewater Treatment Class II operator’s license.
  • State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Wastewater Treatment Class III operator’s license to advance to PAF Level III, 48 months.

Ceres’ Water Program promotes capital market solutions to the global water crisis by accelerating private sector leadership on sustainable water management, through cutting-edge research, investor mobilization and advocacy. The Senior Manager, Investor Engagement position will bring technical water expertise to the program’s efforts to protect freshwater from corporate practices, with an emphasis on sectors that create the most severe and systemic impacts on water resources, to improve the sustainability of their water-related policies and practices. The Senior Manager also helps lead our work with the investment community around Ceres’ Valuing Water Initiative and other strategic investor engagements on water.

This full-time position will be based in our Boston office and reports to the Director, Investor Engagement, Water.

Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

●       Organize investor led engagements with priority companies on water, by developing materials and resources, in partnership with Ceres’ water experts, and facilitation plans to ensure constructive engagements and dialogues that help drive company progress.

●       Support the development and execution of a new global investor-led initiative engaging with companies on water risk.

●       Lead technical insight and review on internal and external water-related research and analysis.

●       Conduct data analysis relevant to investor engagements.

●       Partner with the Director in the development of the business case around water risk and design engagement strategies related to water risk in investor portfolios.  Begin with supporting the Valuing Water Finance Initiative efforts around a materiality assessment and complementary case studies.

●       Engage on a regular basis with institutional investors in the Valuing Water Finance Initiative and the Investor Water Hub network, as well as other investors interested in water topics.

●       Participate in team strategic planning and implementation related to Ceres investor water integration and water shareholder engagement.

●       Represent Ceres in external partnerships and at strategic convenings/events regarding water and ESG integration and disclosure.

●       Work with other Ceres teams to support investor engagement on water risk issues.

●       Contribute to social media, blogging and work with the Communications and Marketing team to further Ceres’ investor-water priorities.

●       Support Ceres Development Team with content on funding proposals, progress reports, and funder education.

The Hull, Massachusetts staff is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and collections system, including remote pump stations. Candidates utilize basic mechanical and pumping equipment repair skills and have experience with electrical systems to provide maintenance and repair around the facility.   Our operators participate in an “on call” rotation for plant coverage outside normal workday hours and shifts may include weekends. In addition, operators will be required to respond to emergency situations and work in inclement weather as needed.  The daily schedule is Monday – Friday, 7.00AM – 3.00PM.

What will you need to succeed?
* Massachusetts Grade 3 or higher Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License, preferred, or the ability to obtain through the operator’s exam or reciprocity.
* 1-3 years’ experience in a wastewater treatment facility, operation, and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education.
* Experience in the operation and maintenance pumps, compressors, and plumbing fixtures.
* High School or trade school diploma is required, Associate Degree or higher preferred.
* A valid Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator’s license.
* Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in wastewater treatment work.
* OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety certification a plus.
* Knowledge of computer applications, and ability to use & learn various software programs [Hach WIMS, SEMS CMMS, and Utility Cloud]
* Ability to read, interpret, and apply instructions, drawings, and specifications for work assigned.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other personnel, and the general public.
* Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
* Must be able to lift or move up to 40 lbs on a regular basis.
