Stratford, CT Hosts 4th Poo & Brew Networking Event

The Poo & Brew events are quite literally named for the activities of the event. Young consulting engineers, operators and other industry professionals get together for a bit of poo, tour a wastewater facility, and follow that up with some brews, and often a tour of a local microbrewery. This event series is a great opportunity to meet others in the organization, learn about facilities across the region and support the growing microbrew industry.

Many young consultants may only be familiar with treatment plants from the vantage point of a computer screen, and many operators may only know the specifics of the facility they work at day in and day out. The Poo & Brew event gives attendees the opportunity to see a variety of facilities in action, ask questions, and compare notes with others in the industry as well as celebrate the benefits our industry has provided the environment and industries.

The NEWEA Young Professional’s Poo & Brew #4 event was held on Thursday June 30th in Stratford, Connecticut and brought together professionals of all ages. The event started with a tour of the Stratford, CT Wastewater Treatment Facility and was topped off with an informal gathering less than a mile down the road at the Two Roads Brewery. Over 60 professionals from various consulting firms and water pollution control authorities were in attendance. These events have been well attended and have received rave reviews both from attendees and hosting organizations, NEWEA YP plans to host a Poo & Brew event each quarter. Stay tuned for the next scheduled event. Feel free to contact the YP committee if you are willing to host an event or would like to get involved.

The Stratford Connecticut WWTF is a modern 11.5 MGD treatment facility. The facility discharges into Long Island Sound, and is required to meet stringent Nitrogen removal requirements. The facility constructed a $55 million dollar Nitrogen removal upgrade in 2009.
