The NEWEA Young Professionals Committee, in association with NEWWA YP committee and NE APWA YP committee, successfully hosted a third event in the Poo & Brew series. This time around, the event was held on a beautiful spring afternoon at the Henry King Wastewater Management Facility on A Street in Framingham, MA and concluded at Jack’s Abby Brewery downtown.
The ‘Poo’ tour started off with an excellent overview presentation by Jim Barsanti (NEWEA President Elect) of the recently completed projects in the area. The tour then proceeded through the large 13 MGD Henry King WWMF pump station, outside to the new Cochituate Rail Trail with 24 inch sewer interceptor installed below, and across the Sudbury River where a 24 inch sewer was jacked below the river and under an Army Corps of Engineers flood gate. Additional upgrades included 12 inch and 30 inch water mains, a reconfigured intersection with new traffic signals and upgraded pedestrian access including crosswalks and landscaping.
Following the tour, the group of 60 attendees proceeded across town to Jack’s Abby Brewery for networking, snacks and a selection of craft lagers brewed on site.
A special thanks to Jim Barsanti, Blake Lukis and Ashley Dunn from Framingham DPW for their help organizing the event and leading the tour.
Mark your calendars for the next Poo & Brew event scheduled for June 30th in Stratford, CT. The event will include a tour of the Stratford WPCA plant followed by networking, food and drinks at Two Roads Brewery.
