NEWEA Outreach Director Jonathan Kunay Receives Prestigious Water For People Award

NEWEA is proud to announce that Jonathan Kunay, NEWEA Outreach Council Director has received the prestigious Water For People’s Kenneth J. Miller Founders’ Award.

As Chairman of the NEWEA Water for People Committee. Jon’s span of involvement and over-all impact is extraordinary. Jonathan has been a strong leader, demonstrated in his leadership in (4) Gala fundraisers with combined committees from NEWWA, (8) Softball Tournaments, (3) Fun Runs, and a NCAA Tournament Bracket Challenge, teamed with the Young Professional Committee. Jon has also assisted in organizing WFP Committee technical sessions at the NEWEA Annual Conference each year and has hosted Committee meetings, and recruited members. Most recently Jon started a fundraiser with Ten Thousand Villages, a shopping event where a percent of proceeds were donated to WFP. In addition Jon started and performed in a WFP Concert Series.

For the Stockholm Junior Water Prize Jon worked with students to educate them on water crisis issues and over the past 10 years as part of the committee, (3 as a member, 3 as Vice Chair, and 3 as Chair) NEWEA have raised close to $500,000 dollars for Water For People.

He is always ready to help staff at national conferences and is a wonderful champion of the work we do. He is so deserving of this award and we are thrilled to honor him this year.”

Jonathan is 1 of 22 people are receiving the honor this year.

The Kenneth J. Miller Founders’ Award was established in 2001 by the Board of Directors of Water For People to honor outstanding volunteers for their service and leadership in the advancement of Water For People’s mission at the local committee and regional levels. The Founders’ Award is presented annually to a volunteer selected by each local Water For People committee of the AWWA Section, WEA Member Association, or other governing organization.
