The Women’s Environmental Network (WEN) was created with the intention to connect women working in water and environmental engineering and sciences. Since its origins, it has evolved from a social group of professional women to a network of women at various points in their careers connecting to share experiences and offer support and mentorship.
WEN regularly hosts networking events and most recently hosted the Women in Water Forum at NEWEA’s 2021 Annual Conference & Exhibit. Moderated by Fredie Kay, Founder and President of Suffrage100MA, this panel featured Liz Levin (Board Member, Normandeau Associates), Phyllis Arnold Rand (Water Quality Coordinator, Greater Augusta Utility District), Megan Yoo Schneider (Founder and President, Seven Management and Consulting and Vice President, Board of Directors for the Municipal Water District of Orange County), and Elisa Speranza (President, Seventh Ward Strategies).
This forum commemorated the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, highlighting progress achieved during that time and identifying the barriers to equitable access to voting that persisted, specifically for women of color. Panelists discussed strategies for supporting women working in the water industry and improving diverse representation in water industry leadership.
