The NEWEA YP Committee is hosting a series of workshops to help young professionals develop abstracts and presentations to submit and present at technical conferences, including the upcoming NEWEA/NYWEA Joint Spring Meeting. The workshop series will guide you through selecting a project for submittal, writing a competitive abstract, developing a professional slide deck and content, and finally, delivering an engaging presentation. The timeline for the series parallels the submittal deadlines for the Spring Meeting, so young professionals interested in submitting to the Spring Meeting YP Technical Session can directly apply these lessons to their abstracts and presentations.
The second of these workshops will be held on Wednesday, February 8th from 12pm to 1pm and will be focused on how to write an abstract for a technical conference. It will be led by Dr. Nick Tooker, a seasoned abstract submitter & reviewer and professor of civil and environmental engineering at UMass Amherst. Throughout Nick’s career as a consultant, PhD candidate, and professor, Nick has written and reviewed abstracts for NEWEA, WEFTEC, and many other technical conferences and has a wealth of insight to share about what makes for a good abstract.
If you have any questions you would like to make sure are covered in this or future workshops, please send them to Joanna Sullivan at joannasullivan@vhb.com.
