A Note on the 2021 Annual Conference

Planning is now underway for our 2021 Annual Conference & Exhibit. As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to unfold, much remains uncertain about the timeline of safely returning to large in-person gatherings. The health and safety of our attendees is our top priority.

Since we are unable to anticipate the status of the outbreak in January 2021, NEWEA’s Staff and Meeting Management Council are exploring three different options for our 2021 Annual Conference:

  1. A fully digital event
  2. A hybrid digital/in-person event
  3. A fully in-person event

Regardless of which option we decide to pursue, NEWEA will be hosting the 2021 Annual Conference during the week of January 25, 2021.

All three of the options above would offer its own set of benefits. A fully in-person event would allow us to host the event as we do every year, including networking receptions, our exhibit halls, and technical sessions. Alternatively, hosting a fully digital event or an event with digital elements would allow attendees and speakers from all over New England to participate without being required to travel to Boston. Instead, attendees and speakers could fit sessions in among the rest of their workday.

Regardless of the format of the conference, attendees, speakers, exhibitors, and sponsors will still have access to the same opportunities they’ve come to expect from our Annual Conferences, including a robust program of sessions providing the latest information on clean water, stormwater, and water innovation; networking opportunities; sponsorships; and exhibits.

We will work with speakers who are selected to present at the Annual Conference to determine the best avenue for sharing their session. Should our Annual Conference take place digitally, we will assist speakers with transitioning their session to a digital format.

We will keep our attendees, speakers, exhibitors, and sponsors updated on our plans for the 2021 Annual Conference as more information becomes available. We look forward to bringing our attendees another informative, engaging Annual Conference in 2021.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Kelly Lachmayr, NEWEA President
Lauren Hertel, Program Committee Chair
Corey Meyers, Exhibits Committee Chair
Meg Tabacsko, Registration Committee Chair
Ron Tiberi, Conference Arrangements Committee Chair
Mary Barry, NEWEA Executive Director
