The Kate Biedron Memorial Fund Task Force thanks the generous individuals and organizations who have donated to the Kate Biedron Memorial Fund. All funds raised support the following initiatives:
- Enviroscape (portable interactive environmental education model on issues that affect the environment) – to promote interest in the fields of engineering in elementary school students and for community education, a Drinking Water and Wastewater Model was purchased and presented to the Dracut Public School System in Fall 2021.
- Kate Biedron Memorial Fund Scholarship – to promote interest and advancement of water industry employment, one $3,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a student entering or enrolled in a Massachusetts based public university in the fields of environmental and/or civil engineering.
- Since 2022, the Kate Biedron Memorial Fund has presented three scholarship awards for a total of $9,000 in funding. The fund also covered a one-year NEWEA Student Membership for the selected student.
- Workforce Development Program – to enhance diversity and inclusion in the water sector, a mentoring program will be developed in partnership with NEWEA’s Workforce Development Committee to identify students from underserved minority groups who are interested in professional careers in the water industry.
