In the first of a 3-part series, Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment staff George Heufelder and Emily Michele Olmsted discuss the issues of phosphorus, including how it affects Cape Cod’s freshwater resources and how homeowners can participate in being part of the solution through a grant-funded program to install an onsite wastewater technology aiming to remove phosphorus.

Participants will learn about financial incentives for homeowners who are a part of the demonstration project, a brief overview of how the different types of available technologies work, and how phosphorus fits into the overall picture of Cape Cod’s water quality.

Target audience: Mainly engineers and installers of Cape Cod. Some health agents may be interested too.
