In July, NEWEA’s Committee Member Appreciation Chair Dan Roop and his fellow committee members coordinated another very successful outing at Kimball Farms in what has become an eagerly anticipated summertime gathering for our membership. WEFTEC15 Recap
NEWEA had an outstanding presence and participation at WEFTEC 2015 in Chicago, IL. Three teams participated in the Operations Challenge Competition with the New Hampshire and Maine teams taking 2nd and 3rd in the process control competition and numerous NEWEA members participated in Committee Leadership, Ops Challenge, Stormwater, Value of Water, Membership, Awards, Board of Trustees and House of Delegates. In addition NEWEA was recognized by WEF and received the Outstanding Member Association Award. Read More >>

Recap : NEWEA Operations Challenge Teams Excel at WEFTEC15

Chicago including; Force Maine (Maine), the Seacoast Sewer Snakes (New Hampshire) and Ocean State Alliance (Rhode Island). Our teams competed against 42 teams from across North America as well as 2 new teams from Germany. Read More >>

The CSO/Wet Weather Issues Committee focuses on wet weather related issues including policies regarding combined sewer overflows (CSO), sanitary sewer overflows (SSO), and stormwater discharges and educating members and the general public on the technical, legislative, financial, and regulatory aspects of these issues.

Student News: Scholarships & Engagement Luncheons

Lunch & Learn at WPI

Student Scholarships for 2015-2016 are now available for both environmental field related majors and for non related majors. Three $3000 scholarships will be awarded. The awards are based on academic performance and demonstrated interest in environmental protection. Read More >>

Engagement Luncheons: This year NEWEA began hosting Student Engagement Lunch and Learns at local colleges and university throughout New England. On September 15th, we held a lunch and learn for the engineering and environmental students of WPI. The Students heard from several WPI Alumni as they spoke about their careers and roles within NEWEA and how NEWEA has enhanced their professional life. Read More >>

Outreach: Promoting Water Quality

Go with the Flow: Marylee Santoro, chair of the Laboratory Practice Committee, delivered a wastewater presentation in Spanish for the first time at the Stamford, CT Senior Center. The group was especially engaged in the flushable vs non-dispersible issue and intrigued by the demonstration of these items. Read More >>

Teacher Training: The Public Education Committee held a Teacher Training event on August 11. It was great success! There were 25 teachers and 7 volunteers, and offered three rotating workshops (World Water Monitoring Challenge, Waterworks Museum tour/activities, and NEWEA Schoolkit presentations).

Networking: On August 5th, NEWEA co-hosted the Women’s Environmental Network 22nd Coed Networking Social. This fun social event was held at Atlantic Wharf in Boston, MA. It was a great opportunity to get the word out about NEWEA with over 200 local environmental professionals.

On the Safe Side… : Safety Logo Contestunnamed-19

The NEWEA Safety Committee is looking for a new logo!
Every 3 years, the NEWEA Safety Committee conducts a “Safety Logo Contest.” The goal is to have the winning logo printed on T-shirts, cups and other promotional safety-related items so worker health and safety in WWTFs is recognized throughout New England.

Submit your safety logo ideas and you could win a one-night stay at the 2016 NEWEA Annual Conference, lunch with the Safety Committee, attendance at the Awards Luncheon and a T-shirt with your logo on it! Learn More >>
