Each year the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) present awards to recognize individuals and organizations that do an outstanding job of public education about water environment issues. If you know someone who fits the profiles outlined below, we'd like to hear from you.

 

Water Environment Federation - Public Education Awards

Each year the Water Environmental Federation (WEF) presents the following awards nationally for service in public education.

 

Public Education Awards

 

I. Individual

To recognize an individual Federation member who has made a significant contribution to public education effort in promoting awareness and understanding of water environment issues, through public education programs.

 

II. Organization or Group

To recognize an organization, group of individuals, events, campaigns or persons or efforts.

 

Criteria and Eligibility for Individual and Organization categories:

·        Must be a member of WEF.

·        Documentation of achievements of public education activities in the water environment field.

·        Identification and description of exceptional efforts to educate the public on water environment issues.

·        Activity or effort must have been implemented within two years immediately prior to nomination. Specific nominations are eligible for nomination only once.

 

Harry E. Schlenz Medal

 

This medal is in memory of Harry E. Schlenz, who served as Federation president in 1961 - 1962. Mr. Schlenz was a distinguished leader in promoting public understanding of the need for effective water pollution control. The award consists of a plaque suitably inscribed with the recipient's name.

 

Criteria and Eligibility for Harry E. Schlenz Medal:

 

·        Documented achievements of an individual who takes up the banner of water environment public education and presents it to their public in a productive process.

·        Only individuals whose principal employment is outside the water environment profession are eligible for nomination.

·        A nominee's contribution should be in the area of journalism, file or video production, or any other communication endeavor.

·        Cannot be a member of the Water Environment Federation.

 

Nominations for Water Environment Federation awards will be reviewed by NEWEA's Public Education Committee, who will recommend nominees to the NEWEA Special Awards Committee for approval, award nominations will then be forwarded to WEF for consideration.

 

Nomination Deadline: February 15th

 

New England Water Environment Association – Public Educator Award

Each year, NEWEA presents the Public Educator Award to an individual or group in the region to recognize outstanding service in public education.

 

Individual or Group Awards

To honor a person or group who has aided NEWEA in achievement of its objective of cleaner water and for increasing public awareness and action in water pollution control.

 

Criteria and Eligibility:

 

·        Must be from the New England region.

·        Must warrant merit for contributions and service to the goals of the Association.

·        May be a person outside the technical field.

·        Membership in NEWEA is not a prerequisite

 

Nominations for these awards will be reviewed by NEWEA's Public Education Committee, who will recommend nominees to the NEWEA Special Awards and Executive Committees for approval.

 

Nomination Deadline: August 1
