Over 60 NEWEA members and guests attended a breakfast at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C. this past March.
The “NEWEA Congressional Breakfast” had taken place for 17 years during the 1980’s and 90’s but was cancelled in early 2000. With the new Administration and new Congress it was decided to get back to Washington to make our voices heard.
Members of the House , Senate and their staff attended the breakfast which was addressed by Representative Michael Capuano (D) from the 8th Massachusetts Congressional District, Ira Leighton, Acting EPA Region 1 Administrator and Andy Nunn, Finance Director from the City of Bridgeport Ct. Rep. Capuano made it clear in his remarks, “there is enormous value in coming to Washington to deliver your message”. After the breakfast, members of our delegation met in small groups at the offices of their state’s Congressional Delegation.
Plans for the 2010 “NEWEA Congressional Breakfast” are developing and we are in discussion with potential speakers. Look for more information regarding this event as it represents a great opportunity to meet with your representatives in Congress to deliver your message.
The NEWEA Gov’t Affairs committee is also discussing sponsoring a session at Annual Conference in January dedicated to this breakfast.
