2009 NEWEA Spring Meeting and Exhibition
Over 230 attendees from New England and beyond attended this year's annual spring meeting in Providence, Rhode Island at the Renaissance Providence Hotel, June 7-10th.
The meeting began on Monday morning with a breakfast session featuring two speakers; W. Michael Sullivan, PhD, Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Director and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (RI-D), member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee. Both speakers shared their views on water quality, funding, and regulatory issues that impact our industry.
Over the next few days, technical sessions on plant operations, CSO/wet weather issues, modeling applications, energy efficiency/carbon footprints, nitrogen removal and regulatory compliance in Rhode Island were held. A special one-day workshop, "Looking Ahead - The Past, Current and Future of Narragansett Bay" was offered to attendees along with a tour of Narragansett Bay and will focus on issues related to New England's largest estuary.
The spring meeting also held tours to NBC's Field's Point Tunnel Pump Station and NBC's Bucklin
Point WWTF as well as the always popular Operations Challenge competition, networking receptions, Golf tournament and the Tuesday evening dinner event.
The spring meeting provides an excellent background for social and professional networking to promote the exchange of ideas and professional growth.
