Call For Abstracts!

North East Residuals, Biosolids and Energy Conference, Exhibit & Tour
October 23-24, 2012
UMASS, Amherst, MA

NEWEA’s Residuals Management Committee and the Northeast Biosolids and Residuals Association (NEBRA) are pleased to announce this year’s annual joint specialty conference, which will be held October 23-24 at the UMASS Amherst Student Union Ballroom in Amherst, Massachusetts.

The Committee is inviting the submission of abstracts for presentations and papers for this conference.  All abstracts pertaining to the management of biosolids, residuals, energy production and efficiency are welcome. The following topics are of particular interest:

  • Regulatory Changes Currently Effecting Biosolids/Management in New England/Country
  • Sustainability - Energy, Carbon Management, Green House Gas Emissions
  • Biosolids, Organic and Inorganic Residual Products - Land Application, Enhanced Soil Amendment, Fuel
  • Micro-constituents in Residuals and Residuals Products
  • Emerging Technologies - Dry Digestion, Enhanced Digestion, Supercritical Oxidation, Hydrolysis
  • Academic Research
  • The Financial Realities of Residuals and Biosolids Management
  • Adapting to New EPA Incineration Regulations
  • Alternative Feedstocks in Residuals Processing and Energy Production (co-digestion)
  • Biosolids/Residuals Program Operations
  • Energy Production and Use
  • Case Studies in Feasibility, Design and Operations
  • Biosolids and the Public
  • Environmental Management Systems

Preferred papers are those that provide clear results from full-scale or comprehensive pilot projects and research and/or summarize significant developments, and/or generally advance the profession. We anticipate the attendance of leaders in biosolids, residuals, and wastewater facilities from throughout the region.

Please submit a short abstract (~250 words) online. Abstracts must be submitted using the Online Abstract Submittal Form.  Deadline is Friday, June 1, 2012. Written papers are not mandatory. However, papers that are submitted may also be considered for the NEWEA January annual conference in Boston and publication in the NEWEA Journal.
