Wastewater collection system operators and managers are faced with many key decisions on a daily basis.  With aging infrastructure, development pressure an rising costs, strategic and cost-effective operation and management of collection systems is a must.  Engineers are also faced with the challenges of designing new collection systems that are not only cost-effective, but increasingly innovative so as to: minimize operational issues, maximize energy efficiency and protect the surrounding environment.

Westford Regency, Westford, MAThis year's Collection Systems Specialty Seminar & Exhibit on September 9 in Westford, MA will cover a variety of distinctive collection systems topics.  The morning session will comprise of presentations highlighting the identification, assessment and removal of Inflow and Infiltration (I/I); Capacity, Management, Operations and Maintenance (CMOM) and Fats, Oils, Grease (FOG) control.  Case examples of pipe and manhole rehabiliation and unique solutions will be presented in the afternoon.

As a contractor and engineering senior project manager, Mr. Perez has spent the last 33 years in the development and implementation of new technologies and concepts in the operation, maintenance and rehabilitation of collection system, force main and interceptor piping. He is the past director of the Northern New England Wastewater Training Center at Vermont Technical College, is an active member of the New England Water Environment Association and since 1997 has served on the Collection System Committee and as event coordinator for the Operations Challenge competition and is past Chair of the Operations Challenge Committee. He is a member of the Board of Directors of The Green Mountain Water Environment Association and has presented several technical papers and conducted numerous collection system training programs covering the use of innovative trenchless technologies and new concepts in condition assessment reporting. He is currently acting as sr. project manager for several ARRA contracts, providing trenchless technology design and construction oversight. He continues to provide on-site operational assessments, project development and collection system training for utilities in the New England area and the Caribbean.
